Seagull Theory

Contents

Did you know? Seagulls as we know them lack thumbs! That won't stop them, though.

You know how if you give a seagull a snack, it will keep coming back again and again? That, but with a gun.

Seagull Theory is the prevailing theory among the crew of The Bullfrog to explain Connection Quetherin and Jack Cassidy’s encounter with the Gunslinger. It argues the only way Jack and Connection could have sustained multiple gunshot wounds each while on the Isle of Autumn was if a seagull with a gun shot them.

Well, if you think about it makes sense because if it was a person, then they would be a tree, and couldn’t have been either of you because then you would be trees. So if you think about it, like if you give a seagull food what happens? They come back for more. So if you a seagull a gun what do you think happens? They use the gun a lot. They get more guns.

Seagull Theory contains many schools of thought with their own explanations for the Seagull Incident. One branch argues whether the seagull that attacked Connection and Jack, often referred to as the Gullslinger, was a regular seagull or a seagull person. Member’s of The Bullfrog’s crew have made pamphlets on Seagull Theory, and though members of the Normal Crew know about them, the pamphlets have never appeared in session. There were many other theories that the crew envisioned to explain Jack and Connection’s injuries. These included that Jack and Connection got into a fight and gave up part way through it, that one of Jack’s guns got possessed, that the Arborist wanted to figure out what a gun did and was really bad at it, and that Connection and Jack both tripped and fell into gunpowder and bullets together. It is unclear which of these competing theories the crew of The Bullfrog actually believed and which were simple jokes. However, none of them had the staying power of Seagull Theory.

Initially Riffle Deck was the only member of the Normal Crew that knew about Seagull Theory, and he helped perpetuate rumors among the crew. However, Jack and Connection both started overhearing the crew talking about it. Connection asked Riffle about it, and in doing so, falsely confirmed Seagull Theory to a passing crewmember, which sizeably affected the crew economy. While Jack had initially assumed the Seagull Incident was about something in the crow’s nest, by the time he and Connection talked about it, he claimed to have heard about Seagull Theory.

It is unclear whether Iseult Parmentier or Kikou know of Seagull Theory, and it is similarly unclear if Vari will learn of it upon her upcoming return.
